If you’ve ever had a pedicure, chances are you’ve probably had a credo blade used on your feet. There are still many salon and spas that use these types of instruments to remove callus on the soles of the feet. Here’s a list of reasons why you should refuse to let someone use a credo blade on your feet:
1. Callus is there for a reason! You never want to “remove” callus from your feet. Instead, bring it down with a pedicure file. If you completely remove callus, unfortunately, the pressure points still exist on your feet due to your gate (the way you walk). Because callus is our skin’s protective mechanism, once the callus is removed skin will go into “shock” and build that callus back up as fast as it can on the pressure points. So “removing” callus is a VERY temporary solution, which could result in sore feet and even worse callus growth following your pedicure.
2. Razors are for your hair, not your skin! Have you ever been shaving your legs and accidentally cut your skin and started bleeding? Often times you don’t even know how it happened… Well, the same can happen when someone is using a blade on your feet. Razor blades are not meant for your skin and can too easily cut too deep, leaving you with more than you bargained for. I will never forget a client telling me the story of someone cutting her on the side of the foot, and having to take 2 weeks off work due to an infection so bad she couldn’t even walk!
3. Make your pedicurist work for her money ;). Those of us who truly love our jobs are passionate about doing what’s best for our clients, not about what’s easier for us. I understand that pedicurists use blades because it’s faster and easier than filing away at your feet until their arm hurts – but it’s just not the right way!
